Off Roading Experience:
Began in the early 80's with trucks and jeeps, playing in mud holes and private property. First real 4x4 was a late 70's Ford F250, then came a long line line of various vehicles. Off roading changed for me when the Badlands Off Road park opened in the mid 90's. With hundreds of acres of woods, rocks, and water crossings I began to experiment with harder and harder terrain and abstacles. Leading to the “most extreme” type of off roading, Rock Crawling.
Competition Experience:
The bug bit after I came across Troy Myers (owner of Badlands Off Road Park), and a group of his friends and employees. They were constantly pushing the envelope of their vehicles performance. It was common to go out for a day of wheeling and see 3 or 4 rollovers and watch as they conquered what seemed truly impossible.
Somewhere around 1999 I tagged along on a trip to Las Cruces, NM, where Troy was entered in a competition. Dragging my moderately prepped Land Cruiser I followed along as they pre-ran the area the event was located. Dragging and coaxing my Cruiser over the waterfalls and across the rock gardens left a lasting taste in my blood for the “extreme”. I joined the team as they progressed thru the event, learning the lingo, and sampling the rules of organized Rock Crawling.
For me, the first "behind the wheel" experience in competition came at a 4x4 Jamboree held at our local fairgrounds the following fall. A simple pile of rocks was turned into a treacherous course. I don't recall the finishing position, but it wasn't “last'! In spring of 2002 I entered the EROCC event in Jellico, TN and finished 2nd. That started my career in Rock Crawling and I finished that year as the Series Champion.

Off Roading Experience:
Began in 2002 when I was invited to go on a trail riding trip with a good friend of mine. During the trip he let
me drive his vehicle and I was instantly hooked. I soon purchased a 1975 Toyota Landcruiser and have been enjoying
it every since. I met Mike “SpaceGhost” during the purchase of my cruiser as he was known as the local landcruiser
aficionado.
While helping me along with my tuning and modification, Mike began to introduce me to his newest obsession,
RockCrawling. He did caution me that he wouldn’t be responsible for my reaction or instant addiction to the
sport. Since then my bank account has never looked the same. I began helping Mike with his competition rig
in spring of ’03. Eventually, after many lessons learned, Mike adopted me as a “team” member and Team SpaceGhost
took on a new meaning for me.
Competition Experience:
Practice sessions at the Badlands Off Road Park

Other Related Experience:
Built 1981 Z28 for Street/Strip 12.0 Sec Quarter-Mile just a toy
Total rebuild Exterior/paint, Interior, Drive train
Shop Duties:
Painter
Anything related to appearance
Welding preparation
Anything to make Mike and A.J.’s jobs easier
Why?
I love to work on cars and have done it most of my life. R&R (remove and replace) is no where near what we do in
the shop. That is very easy and I am very good at diagnosing problems and fixing those problems. I have made many
modifications on my Z28 and thought I knew how to build parts. What an education I have received. Taking something
from an idea/new rule to finished product is a kick in the butt! I hear about “Monster Garage”, “Overhaulin”,
“American Choppers”, and an entire host of other shows. I do not have cable or satellite, nor do I miss it.
I get to participate in real life vehicle construction. I try to help and stay out of the way when I have no clue.
I try not to ask to many stupid questions and distract from the project. While I bring an entire host of skills to
the team, I am really just an apprentice, and love it!
Goal:
Help the team win both UROC and WEROC Championships, and look good doing it. “Second Place is just the first
loser”…Don’t know the original author, but he is so on it!
